Stubben Edge Group expands with Citadel acquisition

Growth is often measured by the number of businesses you acquire or the markets you enter. We see it a little differently.

For us, growth is about creating better opportunities for the brokers, intermediaries and partners we work with. It's about giving them access to more expertise, more flexibility and better technology so they can respond to changing customer needs with confidence.

That's why our acquisition of Citadel Insurance Company Limited is such an important milestone for Stubben Edge Group.

While the transaction expands our presence across Guernsey and the Isle of Man, the real opportunity lies in what it enables us to do next.

Building a stronger proposition

Citadel brings decades of insurance experience and an established presence in the Isle of Man. Combined with 1Edge, our Guernsey-based insurance platform, it gives us the foundations to support partners across two highly respected financial centres.

That matters because today's insurance market is changing.

Brokers and intermediaries are looking for more flexible ways to launch products. Businesses are reviewing legacy insurance arrangements. Wealth advisers are exploring new opportunities for tax-efficient savings and estate planning. Increasingly, they're looking for partners who can combine specialist expertise with modern technology.

That's exactly what we're building.

Technology that supports better decisions

Technology has always been central to the way Stubben Edge Group operates, but only when it solves a genuine business problem.

As part of the integration, we'll introduce our Flightdeck platform into Citadel's operations. Rather than replacing expertise, Flightdeck gives our teams and partners better visibility, simpler administration and faster access to the information they need.

It's another example of how we're modernising established insurance businesses without compromising governance or regulatory oversight.

Investing in people

Acquisitions don't create successful businesses on their own. People do. That's why we're establishing a permanent operational presence on the Isle of Man and welcoming two respected insurance professionals to the Group.

John Cowley joins us as Head of Compliance, bringing extensive regulatory experience, while Andy Guy strengthens our life underwriting and claims capability. Their knowledge will be invaluable as we continue to invest in the Isle of Man and support partners across both jurisdictions.

Looking to the future

The acquisition of Citadel is an important step, but it's only one part of a much bigger strategy. Across Stubben Edge Group, we're continuing to invest in specialist insurance, wealth management and financial technology. Through businesses such as 1Edge, we're helping partners create more flexible insurance and wealth solutions, while expanding the range of services we can offer internationally.

As Karen Barretto, Deputy CEO of Stubben Edge Group, explains:

"The acquisition of Citadel is a deeply personal and professional milestone for our group. Returning to the Isle of Man, a jurisdiction where our team has such deep historical roots, feels full circle. By combining Citadel's robust capital reserves with our Flightdeck technology and world-class reinsurance partnerships, we are proving that legacy management can be highly secure, tech-first and growth-oriented."

The insurance market is evolving quickly, and we're evolving with it. By bringing together specialist expertise, technology and strong insurance partnerships, we're creating a business that's well placed to support brokers, intermediaries and corporate partners for the long term.

This acquisition isn't the destination. It's another step towards building a more connected, more flexible and more innovative financial services group.
